Be A Strong Finisher 2

What makes up a successful person? Successful people share many common traits like being self starters, focused, determined, committed, tough, overcomers of setbacks and obstacles and they are good finishers.

In American history there are many examples of successful people who share these (and many other) valuable traits.

It took Thomas Edison one thousand unsuccessful attempts to invent the light bulb. He was a strong finisher.

Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard and his first business failed. But, as we know, he was a strong finisher.

Oprah Winfrey was fired from a TV station because she was “unfit” for television but now is one of the richest people in the world. She was a strong finisher.

Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team yet became one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He was a strong finisher.

As a Christian, God wants you be a strong finisher. Being a disciple of Jesus is a tough assignment, but this is the assignment God has given to you. It is not easy to be a disciple of Jesus. It takes focused determination and commitment to overcome the obstacles and setbacks that hamper your spiritual growth.

You need to do more than “talk” a good game. You need to keep the commitments you have made to God.

Ecclesiastes 5:5 NLT It is better to say nothing than to promise something you don’t follow through on.

My life experience has taught me that there are many “starters” but not as many “finishers”. People get excited about something and they are off and running, but in a short time their enthusiasm disappears as the reality of the challenge and work involved sets in. They do not have the patience to finish strong and succeed. Human pride that finds the hard work necessary to succeed beneath them ensures failure.

Ecclesiastes 7:8 NLT Finishing is better than starting. Patience is better than pride.

Spiritual growth comes from being a strong finisher over and over. Overcoming challenges, obstacles and setbacks are the only way to grow spiritually and become a strong and healthy man or woman of God.

This is because the nourishment you need to grow strong in the faith comes from being a strong finisher and completing the work that God has given to you.

John 4:34 NLT Jesus explained, “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.”

I have  a good friend who was one of the most successful high school track and field coaches in the state of California.  He knows something about running a course and finishing strong. He knows that to win the race you must have focus, determination, drive and the deep desire to win. He knows that you have to give it all you’ve got to win.

God wants “winners” who have what it takes to be strong finishers.

1 Corinthians 9:24 NLT Remember that in a race everyone runs, but only one wins the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will win.

God’s instruction to all of His people is to be a winner. Run hard. Keep your commitments. Work hard. Remain focused. Overcome setbacks and obstacles. Finish strong.

Be the kind of Christian that fulfills God’s plan and purpose and brings glory to God!

Have a great day!

God bless!
