Over the years as a pastor I have encountered many single mothers who struggle to survive in a very cold and cruel world. How my heart goes out to them. They live in an unjust and uncaring world and need understanding, compassion, support and love.
Some single mom’s have parents or relatives or friends who can help them, and this goes a long way to bring stability and security into their lives. Yet, many are on their own. They really don’t have much of a support system. Their “ex” or “friend” are close to no help and all. The responsibility for raising the family falls on the mom. Their lives are packed with challenges every day. They have to work as much as possible to make ends meet and still make time to be both the mom and the dad.
All this takes it’s toll. They live in a state of weariness. Being worn out is the norm. They live with worry, uncertainty and fear, and fear is very debilitating. It can make you feel powerless. It can paralyze you. It can cause you to be apprehensive and timid. Uneasiness and trepidation take over.
Fear steals their peace and they get no real rest. Getting a good night’s sleep becomes impossible because they are thinking about all the “stuff” they have to do and the “what-if’s” set in. (What if this happens or that happens?) A good night’s sleep becomes only a memory. Have you ever been here? Are you here right now?
What can a single mom in this kind of situation do to help herself? Where can she turn for the genuine love, support and help that she needs?
The answer is a God who loves you even if no one else does. He accepts you just as you are and loves you regardless of what has happened to you or what you have done. His love is real and it is unconditional. We know this because God tells us this.
Isaiah 41:10 NLT Don’t be afraid for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
God tells you not to be afraid of anything because He is there for you. He says not to be at a loss as to what to do (this is being “dismayed”) because He will help you get through these hard times.
God wants to “give you the strength” you need to deal with the things that are causing you to fear and to “help you” deal with these harsh realities. This is why God says that “He will hold you up as you go through your difficult times and bring you through it all!” What a promise! In God you have hope.
God wants to replace your fear with a calm assurance that He is with you and will protect you. He wants to replace your worry with peace of mind. He wants to take away your hopelessness and give you real hope. He wants to change your life.
Look how Jesus said it…
John 14:7 I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And peace I give isn’t like the peace the world gives. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
Do you want God to help you? Can you feel God reaching out to you? Is He touching your heart and stirring your emotions?
If so, then talk to God. Pray to Him from your heart. God will hear you!
Tell God you believe in Him and you believe that Jesus is His Son.
Thank Jesus for His great love for trading His life for yours.
Thank Jesus for paying the price for your sins on the cross.
Thank Jesus for rescuing you from eternal punishment for your sins, and for making eternal life possible.
Confess your sins to God. Tell Him about them.
Ask God to forgive you of your sins.
Ask God to help you change and live a new lifestyle.
Ask for God’s help in dealing with difficult habits and temptations.
Tell God that you love Him and want to serve Him.
Tell God that you are turning your life over to Him.
Tell God that you want to receive Him as your Lord and Savior.
Thank God for saving you from your sins and giving you eternal life!
Tell Him how happy you are to be His daughter!
If you prayed this prayer from your heart God WILL do all He promises. Your sins will be washed away and you will feel new and clean and refreshed inside! You will be a daughter of God! He will be there for you.
