There are times when you quietly struggle with things. How many times have you had a troubling concern that you hide your heart? Everybody struggles with this. It could be that it is embarrassing and you do not want to share your struggle with anyone to get some help or it may be that you feel that your situation is hopeless. In the end, you suffer alone.
God knows how things are. Jesus came to live in this world and He is familiar with human struggles. He knows what being troubled is like and He knows what unfair treatment is like and He knows what suffering is like. No one ever experienced more physical and emotional pain and suffering than Jesus.
You may feel like your best option is to simply suffer in silence because your options are not that good. But, there is an option that you may have not considered.
“Take My yolk upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yolk is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30 NKJV
Jesus is saying that you do not have to go it alone. He is saying that there in nothing you cannot take to Him. He is approachable and ready to help. Jesus invites you to come to Him and let Him help you with your burden. He can help you by lightening your load and help you get some relief and rest.
In the time of Jesus, people had teams of oxen who pulled together as they worked. But often, the oxen were different sizes and different heights. To solve this problem the owner of the team of oxen would get a custom yolk made to fit his two oxen perfectly.
This custom made wooden yolk made the work easier for the two oxen. The bigger, stronger ox could carry the heavier load and take the pressure off the smaller ox. The perfect fit of the yolk saved the pain of blisters and sores on these oxen.
Jesus uses this illustration to tell you that He will team up with you as you struggle with your challenges. His perfectly crafted yolk will help carry your load. His yolk will help lighten your load and give you relief from the pain and suffering that pulling alone causes.
You may be alone as you struggle in silence. Don’t suffer alone. Go to Jesus. You really do have someone to talk to, who will listen, who will help, who will pull with you. Take Jesus’ yolk on you, and let Him be the strength you need to get some relief. This is the answer. Go to Jesus.
How? Just ask Jesus for His help. Tell Him what is troubling you. He already knows, but in sharing your troubles with Jesus, you are demonstrating your faith in Him. And God always responds to your faith. Try it! You will be surprised at what will happen!
Let Jesus help you with your burden!
