Don’t Be Hateful To God’s Enemies, But Love Them

As the current culture continues to erode the truth of the gospel and God’s holy ways, Christians find themselves under increasing pressure to soften their views and to make compromises. Far too many Christians are letting their guard down and ever so gradually allowing themselves to conform to this world and its standards and mores.

For God’s people, this is shameful. It is an insult to God when His people are compromised by cultural pressure. It is an insult to the shed blood of Jesus who died for the very purpose of destroying the power of sin. It is an insult to God’s plan to rid human beings of the slavery of sin and making a new way of life possible that pleases Him.

Romans 6:6 NLT Our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose it’s power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.

Colossians 2:14 NLT He cancelled the record that contained the charges against us. He took it and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ’s cross.

As the world spins out of control in so many ways, the one sure and stable standard is the love of God that is expressed in His children. Showing the world around us in every form possible is what God intends for His people. This is the way the world sees in living color who God is  and what God is like.

We can oppose the current sinful cultural values and acts, but we do not have to be hateful. We stand up for what is right in the sight of God without bringing reproach upon God by speaking the truth in love.

Ephesians 4:15 NLT Instead, we will speak the truth in love growing in every way more and more like Christ.

The better way to oppose the culture of sin that we live in is to speak out, but speak out in love. Strive to live “more and more like Christ.” Be gracious and kind in the way you speak and act, but remain faithful and firm in Christ and His standards and maintain a life of living by his principles. This is the way to show the love God has for all people without doing damage to the cause of Christ by being angry, hostile and hateful.

So, be careful how you respond to the tsunami of sin that is overwhelming the world today. Remain strong in the Lord. Maintain a lifestyle of love. Be gracious and kind. Remember that you are not the judge, God is. This is how people will know you are a follower of Jesus and one of God’s people committed to Him!

Have a great day!
