# Resist This World!

We live in a time when free thought and free speech are no longer accepted or tolerated by a vast portion of our society. In today’s world there is no room for independent thought. Those who do not fall in line with the thinking of the dominant culture are considered unintellectual and even ignorant. In their minds, this makes them unworthy of having an opposing thought or view.

Pressure to conform comes from just about every institution there is from the educational system to Hollywood to government dictates. As a matter of fact these differing ideas and concepts are considered dangerous, and the common thought is that it is best for society that these unruly thoughts and inappropriate speech are completely obliterated for the good of humanity. So much for inclusiveness and tolerance.

God knows all about pressure His people endure to conform to ideas, concepts and morality that are contrary to what He teaches that comes from the Bible. Consider this instruction God has for us.

2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV We demolish arguments and every pretention that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

God tells those who believe to take a close, hard look at the ideas, concepts and moral standards that are being promoted by our culture and to compare these to what the Word of God says. When we do this, the flaws and shortcomings of these alternative standards are seen for what they are. They are false teachings and doctrines.

And what does God say we should do? Should we just dismiss them without thought or reason? No. This kind of resistance will only bring temporary freedom. What we need to do is take command. God says to take these false teachings on directly. We do this by comparing each one of these concepts with what the Word of God. The only way to determine if a concept or idea is true is to compare it with what God’s Word says. If it passes the test, then we need to embrace it. If not, we must reject it.

God tells us to “take captive every thought.” This means that we are to take control of those arguments that challenge God’s ways with careful reason and thought based upon God’s knowledge found in His Word. God’s people must be in His Word and know it so that they can recognize these false doctrines and teachings and be able to make sound arguments against them based upon God’s Word and take them captive. This is for our own sake. This brings spiritual stability and confidence in your relationship with God.

When these false teachings that are in opposition to God’s ways and standards allowed to roam around in your thoughts, it undermines God’s truth and your ability to obey and serve God is hampered.

However, as you take control of the thoughts endorsed and promoted by this world, and take them captive and not allow them to undermine your commitment to God and His ways, you are free! You are freed up to obey and serve Him in the ways He has laid out for you.

Today is a good day to take a close look at what the world is pushing and see if what they like so much is of God or not! We need to know what God’s Word says about these things and be ready to take such hollow ideas and concepts captive.

So, Resist! Fight! And be happy because we are the winners!

God bless, and have a great day!
